The Surti Sunni Vohras

History of the community:
Arrival of Islam in India.
The first Islamic Government and Mughal rule in Gujarat.
Surti, Sunni Vohra Caste.
History and Details of Villages.
1. Arrival of Islam in India.
The historical relation between India and Arab countries is very old. Nevertheless, we can presume that this relation with the Arab countries was before the rise of the Islamic religion. This relation should have been commercial. After the existence of Islam in India, this relation also became of Talimic (Education) and Tablique. The Islamic religion was spreaded all over the world and flags of Islamic religion were hoisted everywhere in the world.
Muslim traders, Maulanas and Messengers of Islam came into the region of Gujarat, Sindh and Kerar through the Arabian Sea in India. Few people came to India through the land route from Iran. We can say with pride that companions of Prophet (pbuh) came first in Gujarat and spread the light of Islam all over India. So many companions of the Prophet (pbuh) died in religious duty and are buried in Gujarat. All these companions were very near to Allah (sw) and the Prophet Muhammed (pbuh). Today, their graves cannot be identified and they have become immortal of Islam.
2. The first Islamic Government and Mughal rule in Gujarat.
The first Islamic Government had been established by Sultan Allauddin Khilji in Gujarat. In 1297, King Karsandev was the ruler of Gujarat. King Karsandev was defeated by Sultan Allauddin and Rajput rule was brought to an end. As a result in 1300, the Muslim rule came into existence in Gujarat. Muzaffar Shah was the last king in Gujarat. He was defeated by Mughal King Akbar in 1572 and Mughal rule was established. After King Akbar, Shahjahan and Aurangzeb were the main Mughal ruler. The Mughal rule ended in 1757. Shri Raghunath Rao and Gaikwad took the responsibilities of free Government in Gujarat.
3. Surti, Sunni Vohra Caste.
There are two types of Vohras:
i. Sunni Vohra and ii. Shia Vohra who are settled in Gujarat.
(i) Shia Vohra.
Shia Vohra Muslims reside in Surat and Saurastra and Kutch in Gujarat. Their Main occupation is trading and Farming. They differ from Sunni Vohra in dressings, beliefs, traditions and their speech. The different types of Shia Vohra are mainly: Jafari Vohra, Sulaimani Vohra, Daudi Vohra, Aliya Vohra,Nagori Vohra, Hiptia Vohra, Mehndi and Baugwara Vohra.
(ii) Sunni Vohra.
Sunni Vohra are more than Shia Vohra in Gujarat. They are settled in Surat, Bharuch, Navsari, and Valsad district. They are also settled in Ahmedabad, Panchmahal, Baroda and Kheda district of Gujarat.
The Surti Vohra who live to the north side of river Narmada are called Patelia and Bharuchi and the Vohra’s who live to the south side of the Narmada river are called Surti Vohra. 1. Assalamu Alaikum bhai,

Yes it is not easy to mix with those communities on the basis of many things. Biggest difference is life-style. We Surti Sunni Vohras have different life-style and food intake habits than other Muslims of Surat hence the difference. We have a different language as well which is the blend of Gujarati, Urdu, Farsi.

This DOES NOT make us selfish. Its not HARAAM either. Other communities have better habits or life-style than us than do enlighten us though.

      Jazakallah!

It is sad to hear that you forgot to add Bodhan village, Taluka Mandvi, Dist Surat. Bodhan has approximately 1500 Vohra. And it has Haji Mohmad Yusuf Kotwal Sarvajanik High School and two big Masjid in this Beautiful village Bodhan which is located at the edge of Tapi river and awesome scenic view.

I am glad to know that our community is so vast and in majority. Would love to get connected to all my brother's and sisters around the world. Take care
